Your Council met on May 15.  A highlight of the meeting was getting to know our three confirmands – Nathan, Matthew and Jakob.  A picture of Council and the confirmands appears below.  You can be proud of this group of confirmands who soundly defeated Council in a test of knowledge of the Catechism.

Your Council approved a contract for replacement of our fence; the fence had reached the stage of decay that it collapsed in the windstorm.  Rental of space in our building to Elections Ontario was approved.  This brings many people to our door, reminding them that there is a church community in their neighbourhood.  We should ensure that our church building and property looks its best for this outreach opportunity.

Long-range planning is a key responsibility of your Council.  Discussion focused on membership and our property.  We were reminded that there are two forces building a church.  The Catechism’s explanation of the Apostle’s Creed says “I believe that by my own understanding or strength I cannot believe in Jesus Christ my Lord or come to him, but instead the Holy Spirit has called me through the Gospel…”.  However, there is also a role for all of us which Jesus instructed: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”  Currently there is a focus on reaching out to people on our membership records to see how or if they want to be engaged in our community of faith.

Our property is in its mid-life.  The fence and furnace repairs are a reminder of this.  Council identified information that is needed to make sound long term decisions about being good stewards of our assets.  Your Council will begin to seek answers to the questions we have.

Please remember your Council and our Pastor in your prayers.
