Grace Lutheran has been involved in sponsoring Monday Night Family Dinners at Kerr Street since 2015. These dinners are attended by people in the community who are facing struggles financially or socially, and are looking for a warm meal and sense of community.
Gathering around the table, sharing food, conversation and time together is a wonderful way to connect people and build community.
Meals are provided by volunteer groups, such as Grace Lutheran. We purchase, prepare and serve the meals. All who come to Kerr Street have an opportunity to fill-up on a nutritious meal, build relationships and enjoy the company of others.
On September 10th, our group hosted the dinner with the theme “Back to School”. We served mini-pizzas, hot dogs, fruit on-a-stick, salad on-a-stick, and homemade cookies. The 50 people that we served, adults and children alike, seemed to enjoy the meal.
There is one more dinner scheduled for November, and in 2019, Grace will be hosting six meals. We have a core group of 26 volunteers who take part in this outreach mission, but more are always welcome. There are usually 8 or 9 people required for each dinner we host, and each volunteer has an opportunity to help out two or three times per year.
If you would like to have your name added to the list of volunteers, please contact Julie Eldridge at [email protected]
If you are not able to volunteer at the dinner, but still would like to be able to support this program, please consider a monetary donation. Each meal costs approximately $300-350, for a total yearly cost to our church of about $2000. Please write Kerr Street Dinner on your envelope.
