Grace Lutheran has been involved with Kerr Street Mission for several years, volunteering to host one of the Family Night Dinners four times per year. We need 8-10 volunteers each time we host the event, for about a three-hour period on a Monday evening.
The meal is planned, groceries purchased, and delicious entrees prepared for a group of 60-70 people from the community. Those coming to partake in the meal may be hungry, or have run short of grocery money, or may just be looking for a friendly face and some conversation.
Gathering around the table, sharing food, conversation and time together is a wonderful way to connect people and build community.
We usually choose a theme, such as “Summer Picnic”, or “Mexican Night”, or “Canada 150”. Lots of laughter, and a bit of chaos, usually make for a fun evening.
Those that volunteer to help with this event, always seem to enjoy their time spent in this mission. It is a great way to reconnect with other church members that you may not have seen in awhile, while contributing to this important Outreach initiative.
